Coach Report – RUTHERGLEN CHALLENGE 2017

August 22nd, 2017

I hope everyone who attended this event at Larkhall enjoyed it as much as I did. Exciting and full of atmosphere and a closely fought contest too.
Congratulations to Lanark who retained the trophy once again by a narrow margin. In the individual events up until the relays we were leading, but relays scoring double points and our lack of depth in some age groups told once again. We are particularly strong in the 12 years age group.

This was our best team picked to score maximum points and it is hard to see how we could have swam much better on the day as we had a full attendance and no call offs. The full team consisted of Anthony Bradley, Ben O’Reilly, Blair Kennedy, Callum Ferguson, Cara Forrest, Elise Leslie, Euan Mitchell, Isabella McNeill, Jamie Miller, John Dunn, Jori Horn, Katie Jackson, Kaysey Dickson, Lara Sabharwal, Macy McLean, Marcy McFarlane, Monica Muir, Rachel Borland, Ross McGhee and Sam Sabharwal.

There we two new swimmers swimming for us for the first time. Euan Mitchel and Katie Jackson. Euan swam a great 50 Freestyle. Katie swam particularly well in the Backstroke.

Considering we are just back from holidays the number of personal bests was huge. However, those who have trained over the summer were at an advantage not surprisingly.
Of the 40 swims 28 were personal bests. The two best personal bests were both from Elise Leslie who took nearly 10 seconds of her 50 Butterfly time.
First places were taken by Anthony Bradley, Blair Kennedy, Callum Ferguson, Jori Horn, Kaysey Dickson, Lara Sabharwal, Marcy McFarlane, Monica Muir and Sam Sabharwal. Second places by Lara Sabharwal, Monica Muir, Anthony Bradley and John Dunn. Third places Elise Leslie, John Dunn, Rachel Borland, Isabella McNeill, Ben O’Reilly and Euan Mitchell.

There is a lot of work to do to get a competitive team for the Clyde Coast and we must recruit more 7/8 year old boys in particular, to give ourselves a chance. However this is a good start.

This weekend coming the older swimmers will be at the District Sprints and relays at Ayr.
Thanks to everyone again.
