The Rutherglen Challenge

This annual team gala for 12s and under is held every Autumn, hosted by Rutherglen at Larkhall Leisure Centre between ourselves and two or more other invited clubs.

Swimmers compete in a number of events throughout the gala –
8 and under: 25m all strokes.
9, 10, 11 & 12 year olds: 50m all strokes.
There are also mixed (2 boys & 2 girls) freestyle & medley relay events for the 9, 10, 11 & 12 age groups.

Swimmers may enter as many events as their club sees fit, in any age group above and including their own.
The gala is licensed as a level 3 ‘unaccredited’ meet, so DQs are only imposed for serious infringements in individual events and relays (at the discretion of the most senior technical official, acting as referee). No swimmer under the age of 10 will be disqualified and advice will be given to competitors by officials on technical matters where appropriate.

Each team is allocated one main ‘scoring’ lane, with spare lanes divided between teams as appropriate. Points are only awarded in a team’s scoring lane and relay events score double points!

This is a fun gala where our younger swimmers get to show off their skills in a competitive but friendly environment. Clubs are encouraged to cheer on their teams as loudly as they can!
The team with the most points at the end of the gala will be declared the winner and their club will be presented with the “Rutherglen Challenge Cup”, to be retained for the next year.

Snack bags are provided for all swimmers after the gala.

With child protection being uppermost in our minds, no form of photography is allowed at the gala without the prior permission of the host club.
