Cumbernauld Graded Meet 26,27 November 2011

GOLDEN GIRL ERIN AND ROSIE’S THE BEST – HELEN PARK
Another year for Rutherglen at Cumbernauld Graded and another year of great swimming and the added bonus of no snow !!!
There was far too many great swims to mention but some people stood out for me
Callum Gowran led the way with 3 swims and 3 big Pb’s in one session , Callum’s swims show that hard work does pay off
Nicole Gunn swam well having had a tough season in the pool she showed real strength and determination and dug in to Pb her 100 fly and breast . With some hard training behind her over the winter I’m sure it wont be long until she is at the top of her game again in her chosen event of distance free
Erin proved a real class act with 4 golds from 4 swims . The swim of the meet was for me Erin’s 100 back with a great Pb of 1.13 this gave her a Scottish Age group time for next year but unfortunately with not enough officials on poolside the meet failed to gain accreditation so Erin’s with have to repeat this again.
Leila Collie and Charlotte McGloin both swam well and recorded PBs.
Although I wasn’t there on the Saturday results show real depth in the younger age groups . I heard through the grapevine that Rosie was best girl, a big well done to Rosie !

SATURDAY ROUNDUP – HARLEY MATHIESON (I’m sure Jim won’t mind!)
With Lindsay having a well deserved break it was down to Jim to coach on Saturday, and he presided over some fantastic swims with great PB’s and a good haul of medals.
Jonathan Christie had some particularly exciting swims against tough opposition including a nail-biting dead heat for joint Gold in the 200 IM! Huge PB’s in the 100 back, 100 breast and 200 IM rounded off a fantastic day for Jonathan, with 3 Golds and a Silver .
Hazel Leslie and Amie Harvey worked hard in their age group for some great result, significant PBs and gold and silver medals for Hazel.
Emma Smith recorded a fantastic PB in the 10 years 100 Free.
Molly Young and Katie Scott both had great days, Molly picking up a silver in the 100 breast and bronze in the 100 back.
Rebecca and Alexander Gunn worked hard in their races, Rebecca getting PBs in the 100 back and 100 Free. While Louise Bradley, Sophie Bestwick and Michaela Warner continued to improve with some great results and excellent swimming.
Kyle McAlinden picked up a well deserved 5th in the 100 breast with a good PB.
Rosie Mathieson had a great day, picking up medals in all her events and overall Best Girl on the Saturday. It’s worth noting she came 2nd in the 50 free final beating the third place swimmer by whisker, which gave her enough points to win Best Girl, and only did so because she remembered to get her head down and swim without breathing for the last few metres.
(Hopefully I’ve covered everyone on the Saturday!)
