A couple of points to note…

January 27th, 2012    Posted in General News

Could all swimmers please treat the changing rooms and pool staff with respect. There was an incident involving purple soft drinks in the changing room last night which lead to a significant clean up job by the pool staff. Please note behaviour of this kind is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the club. It could also result in a ban from the pool itself which would make club membership untenable for the individual concerned.

Could all swimmers and parents also please note that whilst the club has a duty of care for the swimmers are in the pool area, this does not extend to the cafe, reception area and particularly the external grounds of the pool, therefore members and parents should be aware that while attending their particular training session swimmers must remain in the pool area under the supervision of the coaching team. Swimmers and parents should note that swimmers staying around the cafe, reception area and external grounds outwith their designated training sessions and outwith the supervision of the coaching team do so outwith the duty of care of the club. Whilst understanding the complexities, travel arrangements etc of having multiple swimmers in different sessions, we would discourage this where possible and at least remind parents of their responsibility to ensure their children safely make their way to and from training sessions and behave properly in and around the building.

Please read and understand the code of conduct displayed on the club notice board at the pool or download it here

CLYDE COAST LEAGUE 2012

January 19th, 2012    Posted in General News

There are 3 Rounds in the Clyde Coast League

Round One – 26th February 2012 Scotia, Kingston, Milngavie & Bearsden
Round Two – 21 or 22nd April 2012 Clydebank, Kirkintilloch, South Ayrshire
Round Three – 19 or 20 May 2012 West Dumbarton, Clydebank and South Ayrshire.

Our aim is to reach the final at Ayr for the third year in a row and to gain a higher points total than last year.

To do this we need to take 2nd place minimum in each round and score maximum points. Although we have possibly the strongest Team ever, all swimmers selected need to be available. It may be possible even, to win one of the rounds which would be our first round win ever!

I will try and swim as many swimmers as possible, however, the Clyde Coast league is about the Club and to score the maximum points we can. Some swimmers may get multiple swims, some one, other just a relay or spare lane swim.

In Round 1 and 3 we are away so there is limited lane space so we will only be able to take a main team and some reserve swimmers who should get spare lane swims. Some swimmers may only get relay swims in which case I will try and get them spare lane swims. It is possible they may get more swims than scoring lane swimmers!

In Round 2 we will be hosting this and we will have our own spare lane in which I will try and get everybody swims.

Following the Club championships, I have almost finalised the Team for round one which I will post next week.

Top Form Trophy and Medals Presentation

January 17th, 2012    Posted in General News

Just a reminder that the Top Form Trophy takes place on Tuesday 24th January from 6pm – approx 8.30pm.

Warm ups will take place from 6pm with the events starting at 7pm when we get the full pool.

Although not likely to be as busy as the Club Championships we still need a full compliment of volunteers and STOs to get through the evening.

Please note that normal training will be disrupted on this night – if you have not entered the Top Form Trophy, you will not have any training BUT…

Medal and trophy presentations for the Club Championships and Top Form Trophy will take place immediately after the Top Form Trophy events have finished. Top six in each event will receive either a medal or ribbon but we aim to give all swimmers who took part something! Cups will be given out to best in age group categories. The Coach’s Cups will also be issued on the night.

We anticipate that this will take place around 8.30 pm, so hopefully you can be there, even if you are not swimming on the night.

Can those of you who have cups from last year please return them to the club this week if you have not already done so. (Best in age groups cups can be kept).

Thank you to all the committee, parents, helpers and swimmers of RASC in helping to make the Championships the success that it was (save for one or two technical difficulties !!).
It simply could not be done without the efforts of all concerned.
Once again a very BIG THANK YOU and well done everybody.

John Lalley

January 4th, 2012    Posted in General News

It is with profound regret that I have learnt today of the death of John Lalley, Maria’s dad. As some of you may know, John had been battling illness for some time, but he was always a true gentleman, friendly and witty, with a great interest in Maria’s swimming and the others in the pool.

My last memory of him is sitting next to him at the South Lanarkshire Schools competition, where he took great time and care to note every swimmer from the club, highlighting their names on the programme and then cheering them on in every race.

I’m sure I speak for everyone associated with Rutherglen Amateur Swimming Club in expressing our sincerest condolences to Maria and the rest of John’s family at what must be a most difficult time.

We’ll miss you John.
