Hamilton Baths ASC Graded Meet – Entries

September 21st, 2010

Accepted, Rejected and Reserve Swims

Click on the link below for the list of swimmers entered into the Hamilton Baths Graded Meet at the Sir Matt Busby Centre, Bellshill, along with whether they were accepted to swim or not, or if they are a reserve for the swims entered. If you are a reserve this means that you should attend the meet as usual, and, if someone pulls out of the event, then you may get a swim. This meet was heavily subscribed and the organiser had to accept a limited amount of swims to keep within the three hour sessions allowed. Some swimmers have been rejected where you would think they would be accepted and vice versa. This underlines the problem Lindsay has in selecting swimmers for competition. If you have not been accepted we hope that you are not disappointed too much, and will keep training and entering competitions as they come up.

A busy weekend!

September 14th, 2010

Cameron Park, Ross Leslie and Emma Christie had a tough training session on the Saturday evening with the Lanarkshire International Children’s Games’ training squad, Emma in particular showing true grit on her birthday weekend with a move up to the 14 years category.

Before that the club’s swimmers took part in the Distance Age Group Meet at Auchenharvie (Saltcoats) run by North Ayrshire ASC. Competition was tough, with top West District teams present including South Ayrshire, North Ayrshire, Ren96, West Dumbarton and City of Glasgow.

There were some excellent performances, with a Silver Medal being won by Molly Lucas in the 200m Butterfly and several Bronze Medals won by Hazel Leslie, Emma Christie and Johnathan Christie. One of the day’s best improvement performances came from Hannah McInnes who recorded a fantastic personal best in the 200m Freestyle.

Following on from the success of the District Sprints at Ayr last week, the 11-13 year olds from the club took part in the Falkirk MAGS (middle age group) meet at Grangemouth.

The medal tally was Rutherglen’s best yet at this event with a wonderful seven golds, two silvers and two bronzes, along with a 4th, three 5ths and a 6th. Three-quarters of the swims were personal bests (pb’s), and those that were not were missed by small amounts.

Fraser Hood got a good pb in his 100m Backstroke while Erin Holmes had three pb’s out of three – swimming in three finals. In fact, Erin managed to swim a pb in one of her heats and then beat that again in the final. The ability to swim well in heats and then improve again in the final is a sign of a quality swimmer.

Lina Guarin also swam very well, with a 4th in the Breaststroke, while her older brother Ghais Guarin won the boys 100m Breaststroke and had some good pb’s and other final places too.

Cameron Park and Ross Leslie both ended up swimming eight 100m races on their way to winning ‘Best Boy’ each in the 12 and 13 year age groups, making for ‘a reasonable training session’ according to Head Coach Lindsay Young!

Ross, in four events broke his personal best four times in the heats and broke them again in three of his four finals. He showed great mental strength throughout, especially in the 100m Butterfly final where he dug in deep to win. Similarly, Cameron had four events with three pb’s, improving his times again in all four of his finals. Cameron is beginning to show great strength in the second half of events with Coach Young putting this down to big efforts in training.

In a gruelling weekend for club staff as well as swimmers, Head Coach Young was very pleased with the performances. Thanking coaches, club volunteers and swimmers for their efforts, Young insisted that there was still room for improvement.

‘There are a number of lessons to be learned from this weekend. The Club could have done even better. We had some swimmers missing from the Grangemouth squad who could have added to the amazing points total and allowed us to enter relay teams’ he reflected.

‘Performances and improvements at events reflect attitude and commitment in training. It comes as little surprise to our coaches that those training hard perform well!’
