Scottish Open Water Championships 2010
Congratulations to Nichole Gunn who won the Girls 12 years 1Km at Lochore Meadows in Fife on Saturday.
That means she is now an age group Scottish Champion!
Nichole gave a real fighting performance and put a massive effort in from the start in her first Open Water Swim.
This year was not one of Rutherglen’s biggest entries, and we had a number of swimmers who did not complete the course. The water temperature was 18°C, possibly as warm as it gets and yet there were a lot of swimmers this year, some experienced, who retired due to the cold.
Tony Fletcher and Claire Wotherspoon both swam very well and completed the 2Km course in good time, Claire 11th in the ladies and Tony 12th in the men.
Despite the small number finishing I was delighted with all those who took part and had a go. I was also disappointed Dean Stevenson was not allowed to start, the referee deemed his injury to a leg to be unsafe.
For the first time ever we did not have a relay, although I had entered one. But, we have always had at least one Medal at this event, and this year we got a Gold.
Very well done Nichole!
